The first standard issue semi-automatic rifle issued to the US Armed Forces, the M1 Garand was referred to as "the greatest battle implement ever devised" by General George S. Patton. Replacing the venerable Springfield M1903 in 1936, the M1 Garand quickly displayed its huge advantage on the battlefield. During World War II, the M1 Garand saw extensive use and gave US forces a major advantage in firefights against Axis soldiers who were usually issued slower bolt-action rifles. The M1 Garand remained in service throughout the Korean War and even had limited deployment in the early years of the Vietnam War. The rifle still continues to be used even in the modern day by drill teams and military honor guards as well as in the civilian market long after it was retired from active service. Thanks for subscribing!
